The concept of Yin and Yang is mentioned everywhere in the
industry, but few people really know the deeper meaning beyond. Feng Shui is a study of the
environment that looks at the heavens, man and earth. The concept of Yin and Yang and the cycles
associated with it are all part of this greater understanding.
There can be no understanding of what is Yin, if there is
no counterpart of Yang. Therefore what is Yin for one situation, may not be Yin for another
situation at all. We cannot look at the principle of Yin and Yang from just one side. Nothing is
purely only one thing, Yin at its prime is the beginning of Yang.
So if you judge Yin and Yang, don't be fooled by rote
rules, look at your individual situation, take a good observation of all sides of your problem and
then discern what is Yin, what and where is Yang and how do they interact!
By the way this is one reason why offsite Feng Shui
reports usually miss an important part of the picture!
The seed of Yang is inside Yin waiting to ascend into
light and at Yangs prime, the seed of Yin emerges only to grow and start another cycle.
In the 24-hour cycle, Yang reaches its lightest at noon
and Yin reaches its darkest at midnight.
In the yearly cycle, taking the 12 months, Yang reaches
its prime in July and Yin reaches its prime in January.
Looking at directions, Yang at the prime on top is South.
Yang is in the East and Yin is in the West. Yin is in prime in the North. - see chart
above.
The point here is that in all the big and small cycles in
our lifes, Yin and Yang represent constant change, just as time, seasons and directions change and
it is balance of the two sides, not the fact that they are opposite.
